Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland

Have a look at the map of Ireland and you will discover that the island is divided in two parts: Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The Republic of Ireland (which is located in the south of the island) does not belong together with Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland belongs to Great Britain whereas the Republic of Ireland is totally independent.
And this is the reason why Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have different flags and currencies:

The currency of Northern Ireland is the GBP and the currency of the Republic of Ireland is the Euro.

Next to the map of Ireland you can see the flag of Northern Ireland and underneath you can see the flag of the Republic of Ireland.
